Rishi’s speech is worth catching up on, but I thought I’d highlight a few points:
On Education:
- increasing technological education
- new Advanced British Standard to replace existing qualifications
- +£30k tax free for teachers of specialist subjects
On the NHS
- first ever workforce plan ( I voted for this in 2021 against Government Whips 😇)
- more preventive care including increasing legal age of smoking a year each year - 4/5 smokers start before age 20 costing the NHS £17bn
On Crime and Policing
- every crime to be investigated - people have a right to feel safe
Illegal immigration
- Parliament to decide who lives here not criminal gangs
- UK Illegal crossings down 20% this year (EU crossings up)
HS2 and public transport
- change direction to improve rail network everywhere with more electrification and keeping the £2 a bus ride!
Road to Net Zero Emissions
- taking the financial burden off low-income families and looking to R&D and industry to deliver better, more affordable solutions to home heating and efficiency and clean transport
Small Business and Enterprise
- R&D and capital investment tax breaks
- cutting red tape
- opening new markets
Veterans and the Armed Forces
- a country fit for our heroes
- best armed forces and intelligence services
