Brake, the UK's road safety charity, is hosting #RoadSafetyWeek from the 19th - 25th November 2023 and focusing on raising awareness of the dangers that can face all road users whether they be drivers, cyclists, or pedestrians.
Every time we driver faster than the speed limit, or too fast for the road conditions, we increase the risk of a crash – and we increase the chance that someone we love will be hurt or even killed on a road.
5 people die on our roads every day - which is a horrifying statistic that needs to be urgently addressed.
Brake's have a hugely important service available called the National Road Victim Service which supports those bereaved or seriously injured in a road crash. This service saw a 30% increase in referrals for support in 2022 on the previous year and have seen that trend continue into 2023, with referrals already 18% higher than last year with three months of the year remaining. This will be done through their #Brake5 challenge.

From my extensive work in road safety throughout the years with Devon & Cornwall Police and Cornwall council, I know just how important it is for our communities to work together to make a difference.
Please follow the speed limits. Be aware of the conditions of the road. And pay attention to save lives."
