The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee (of which I am a member) continues to take evidence of the availability of food to consumers during the lockdown (Friday and yesterday).
We took evidence from the CEO of Trussel Trust and CEO of FoodShare first and then I was pleased to be able to quiz Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director, Age UK and Fazilet Hadi, Policy Manager, Disability Rights UK, regarding the experience of elderly and vulnerable people in relation to getting the food they need.
It is quite clear that, despite the Government’s food parcel delivery service and priority routes for shielded residents people who have disabilities are still struggling to get the food and essential items they would usually access relatively easily. There is more to do but I want to pay particular credit to small shops and community groups who have worked very hard to ensure people are not forgotten.
