Following last weekend’s announcement that Carbis Bay will host the G7 Summit of world leaders in June, West Cornwall MP Derek Thomas has pressed the Prime Minister to ensure that the summit focuses on the climate change agenda and a green industrial revolution.
Thanking Boris Johnson for the “tremendous opportunity” the G7 offered his constituents at PMQs, Mr Thomas asked: “Does the Prime Minister share my belief that the G7 is a perfect opportunity to secure a global commitment to embrace and accelerate our ambitious low carbon industrial revolution.”
The Prime Minister replied: “I believe that the G7 Summit in Carbis Bay will not only be an opportunity to bring the world to tackle Covid, to build back better, to champion global free trade and to combat climate change - it will also showcase that wonderful part of the UK and all its incredible technological developments.
The Prime Minister referenced Newquay Spaceport, Goonhilly Earth Station and Lithium mining in regard to these developments and said that Cornwall had been at the heart of industrial development since the Romans started mining for tin, adding: “Cornwall is once again at the heart of the 21st century UK green industrial revolution."
