Storm Ellen is currently bringing unseasonably strong winds and rough sea conditions to Cornwall and the Met Office has issued a Yellow warning of wind, warning the public to expect disruption to travel and power supplies.
The storm coincides with a series of high spring tides and could lead to coastal flooding. Communities on the South Cornwall coast are at highest risk due to their exposure to the onshore wind and waves. The risk of flooding could be further increased if the times of high tide coincide with potential heavy rainfall where the drainage of rivers and surface water could be restricted by high tide levels.
Storm Ellen is forecast to bring large waves and force 8 South Westerly winds today (Friday) and high tide this evening is at 7.21pm in Newlyn and locations particularly at risk include Newlyn, Penzance, Long Rock and Marazion.
