The need for PPE is a real issue and whilst supplies are getting to Cornwall they are not keeping up with the increasing demand. I’ve been working closely with Cornwall Council and others to raise the need for adequate supplies of PPE as the efforts made via the Local Resilience Forum are not getting the results needed.
Earlier this week, I raised the seriousness of the PPE shortage directly to Matt Hancock, Health Secretary and he is taking action to unblock the supply chain. He has also published an action plan for adult social care in England, setting out how we can reduce the spread of coronavirus in care settings and how we can better support care staff. The care workforce is on the frontline in the fight against coronavirus, standing alongside the NHS, and we must ensure they are supported and valued during these incredibly challenging times.
The Council leadership and Cornish MPs continue to work closely on this constructively despite local media efforts to create division and conflict.
