The minute restaurants, cafes and hotels closed dairy farmers were immediately faced with the problem of surplus milk. I’ve worked closely with local farmers, the NFU, my colleagues and as a member of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee to press Government to find a way to support dairy farmers.
The new fund announced yesterday will provide support for West Cornwall dairy farmers suffering the effects of the pandemic on their dairy business. Eligible dairy farmers will be entitled to up to £10,000 each, to cover 70% of their lost income during April and May to ensure they can continue to operate and sustain production capacity as well as helping them continue to be able to look after their animals to a high standard.
Fantastic news.
